Why Lavender??

First let’s answer the question of why lavender???  We are now a grain farm and will always be.  And you don’t want Kim or Kris driving a tractor.  Just hide in the ditch when you see us pulling a grain cart.  But for years I have been interested in growing flowers.  In early 2016 we saw an article on a lavender farm out east and the idea started back and forth in an email between Kris and I.  We are far enough away from the Mississippi river that we so have around 20+ acres of rolling hills, formerly pasture where the experiment would begin.

How do you start growing lavender??  …..with a lot of research.  Lavender wants to be dry.  It doesn’t like a lot of water and is not a fan of humidity.  But research shows it growing many places so why not in Edwardsville IL.  Lavender is grown in Washington, Oregon, Arizona, Wisconsin, Virginia, Kansas and the list goes on.
