Expansion and Dealing with 11 inches of rain

Year 2 began with the plan to add 300 more plants but first what the heck…….. 11 inches of rain. Remember lavender likes arid conditions…dry!!!!   As a result of all the rain, a few varieties seemed to stand out Pastors Pride, Vera, Hidcote and Grosso.     We decided to plant these varieties again in the new plots.  The plants were purchased from a lavender grower(Morford Farms) in Kansas and picked up the first week of May.

Two new plots were added to Farm 2(Grandma Clara’s) on the rolling hills and one plot was added to Farm 1.

The soil was hit with the turbo disk.  Pelletized lime and potash were added after soil tests revealed the soil’s ph was low and then the plots were tilled.  The farm 1 plot was bermed using a horseradish tool to help it drain.  The plots were covered with landscape material and then planted by the family team over Memorial Day weekend.
